Philosophy

At Ash Hall Care Home we have a number of policies that demonstrates how we care for our residents.

All people need to be loved and cared for in a manner that recognises and gives values to their individuality. Here at Ash Hall Care Home our aim is to focus closely on individualised resident care. In our view primary nursing offers the most effective delivery method in meeting residents needs.

Our residents have a right to:

  •  Safe skilled care delivered with consideration and respect for the individual. Every client is entitled to a primary nurse who is registered with the NMC and has at least 18 months post basic experience.

  •  Residents have a right to every consideration to privacy, dignity, choice, independence and fulfillment and the right to expect that all communication and records pertaining to care are treated as confidential.

  • Service Users have the right to live in a safe, clean environment where infection control guidelines are adhered to.
  • Residents have the right to receive help from family and/or significant others.
  • We advocate that nursing knowledge must be researched based to enable us to justify our practices and maintain high levels of quality care which is completely up to date and effective.
  • We utilise a nursing model that guides and assists our thinking and action in the delivery of care. We use Roper, Logan & Tierney's Model, which advocates 12 activities of daily living. In conjunction with this we also use the process of nursing to enable us to utilise the model appropriately in our delivery of care.

We are aware of continuing change within nursing and recognise the stress associated with it and the need for staff meetings.

We strive to keep abreast of change by:

  • Attending study days and cascading information.
  • Inviting medical representatives to Ash Hall Nursing and Residential Home to share their specific knowledge and experience of the products/equipment they are promoting.
  • Encouraging care workers to undertake QCF training in a supportive environment.
  • Reading the latest relevant journals.
  • Discuss issues related to specific client needs within the multidisciplinary team that includes: GP's, Social Workers, Health Visitors, District Nurses, Dentists, Opticians, Chiropodists and other qualified or care staff to Ash Hall Nursing Home with service users consent.

We recognise the value of our colleagues within our multidisciplinary team and work with them to achieve the quality of care for our clients.

We adopt an informal attitude and recognise ourselves to be role models with a requirement to demonstrate a standard of excellence.

We believe in freedom to express personal feelings amongst our staff members, and that no question or suggestion from any of them will be ignored, but will be given serious consideration.

We operate an open door policy at all times.

We all have one thing in common despite the difficulties, which face us in our work. At Ash hall Nursing Home and Residential Home we are very passionate about the work we do, the quality of care we deliver and how that care is delivered to individual clients who choose to join. Our emphasis is placed on teamwork, with a united, happy team, which is devoted, and committed to its cause we can only give our best to the clients who deserve the best.

maxine-lorraine Maxine and Lorraine Bowker - Business Managers:
Both sisters have been actively involved with the running of the home from the onset of business in 1992. Maxine commented 'That the staff are the foundation of Ash Hall, without their hard work and dedication life for the residents would be very different'. Maxine continued 'All residents are loved, cared for and treated as individuals - we encourage both resident and relative input as to how their care is provided. Obviously we do have to work within the restraints of our resources, however, we always find an acceptable balance. Regular relative meetings are used as a means to improve services and we welcome outside views.'
